occupational upskilling [training] sessions

free training with rental and utilities support up to $4,000

Service Industry Fundamentals and Advanced Skills

training starts: November 16th and December 7th [virtual]

  • course content will include:
  • • communication styles (DiSC)
  • • successful onboarding
  • • feedback: how to give it, how to receive it
  • • customer service skills
  • • time management
  • • individual coaching [optional]

HVAC Installer

training starts: November 30th [on-site at Goodwill]

understanding the basic fundamentals of HVAC, including the process of cooling and heating air. learn to identify the tools, materials, and measurements needed to install HVAC units, ductwork, and electrical connections, into new residential and commercial buildings.

Introduction to Business Services and Finance

Training Starts: November 16th [virtual through Evergreen Community College]

  • Course content will include:
  • • Excel Level 1
  • • Bookkeeping & Accounting Basics
  • • Business Math
  • • Business Writing
  • • Career Readiness (Resume Writing, Interviewing, LinkedIn, and more)

Construction Core and Leadership Fundamentals and Electrical Track

Training Starts: November 23rd [on-site at Goodwill]

program ensures participants gain the tools and basic knowledge to start a new career in the construction field:

  • • a comprehensive introduction to the construction trades as a career path
  • • pre-apprenticeship certification with Associated Builders & Contractors - Northern California Chapter
  • • completion of the accredited curriculum from the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER)
  • • OSHA 10 certification, as well as other safety training
  • • understanding of general principles of construction and trade tools
  • • employment preparation, including an understanding of the application process and interviewing techniques

paid work experience assignments

all opportunities are full time temporary work up to 10 weeks.

San Jose CARES program participants need to be

  • • resident of the city of san jose [training ONLY]
  • • you or someone in your household  has lost hours or job due to COVID-19 OR have you have exhausted Unemployment benefit
  • • legally able to work in the United States
  • • 18 years of age or older
